Get those Idols out your Heart
Hey lovelies! I hope you had an amazing, peaceful, and refreshing weekend. I certainly did. Once I left work Friday, I had pizza over my parent’s house, and stayed over until about midnight. My apartment is downtown, so the walk from my car to my door was a brave one to say the least.
Any who, once inside I washed my face, changed, and plunged into my bed. Saturday was just as relaxing. Listened to some gospel while cleaning, opened up all my windows for fresh air, and even attempted to map out my expenses over the next couple months.
That’s where I felt a tad bit stressed! Money, money, and more money. When will I not have to think about this so much? I want an increase. I want paid for opportunities. I want to reach more people. All of a sudden, I noticed all these desires.
But, in the midst of all of that mental chaos, I had a break through moment. Some of these wants and desires on my heart have become obsessive. I’ve assumed praying on them daily meant they’d surely happen ASAP. Nope. Why? Because they’ve become idols, due to me not being in position to receive them!
Not being ready at the time, doesn't mean we don’t deserve the lifestyle we’re after, but it shouldn’t consume us. You should be able to have peace before and after getting all your heart wants. Before your bills are paid. Before you’re able to live comfortably. If your life only seems okay when everything is going your way, you may need to check where your source of joy comes from.
It’s important to ask God to not allow you to move one toe without being ready. Imagine if you received every single thing you want this week. The money, the status, the man (yes girl). Would you actually be ready?
My desires are to live fabulously. In all aspects. Spiritually, mentally, physically, financially, romantically, ect. And to bring God glory while doing so, but I’m learning I DO have to be in the right position for certain things. My heart, mind, and attitude count. As well as my obedience. So, what have I decided to do? Give my idols to God. Those that I know of, and those that I have no idea I’m obsessing over.
So why discuss this, while wearing a Tee that represents someone who seems to possess many idols of their own, and has been an idol himself? Because Kanye is the perfect example! He has always been so talented and creative, but he’s done and said something things that have made us all question his motives.
It’s looked foolish and unstable to us, but we don’t know his season. We don’t know what he’s truly after. We don't know the idols of his heart. Just like things can be an idol of our hearts, so can status and fame. Money and approval of others does not become a cure all to life. Let God meet your every need, and be your source before, during, and after getting what you want. So you don't have to be a Kanye when you get it all.
Don’t rush the process of blessings. Don’t rush the season God has you in. He’s preparing you and I. So, keep praying and pressing on. You're still worthy and capable. What you've been waiting for is yet to come- Be ready for it!
