Balancing a 9-5 and a Passion

Balancing a 9-5 and a Passion

Is it possible?!

Hey loves! First things first, you’re amazing and so are your dreams and aspirations. Now, let’s get to business. I’m sure many of you, if not all, saw the title of this blog post and immediately felt “I can relate sis!” I’m glad you can. I want you to know that doing what you have to, to get to where you want to is A-ok!

To be truthful, smiling through a 10 hour shift when you’d rather be speaking on a panel, or creating content for a blog post is a lot easier said that done. But do it! When I first started blogging in 2016, I was a college student. Now I’ve graduated, and I work in my career, which I enjoy!

But each day isn’t easy. In fact, I just recently went through a period of time where the routine of my job felt like it was driving me nuts! Shortly after that, God asked me to let go of a second job I had, for extra money, due to the stress factor of it not being worth the cash. Talk about a change!

As I mentioned earlier, I want to speak on panels/at events, and I constantly am thinking of ways to create content for my blog. Blogging and encouraging are my passions! The positive feedback I receive from people all over the country, many of which I’ve never met, is mind blowing. It’s also always a confirmation of being on the right track. Which makes it more than worth it!

If you’re a creative, you know the balance of working a 9-5 and trying to build your brand to eventually be your job is hard! So what’s the balance after all? Your attitude! How are you talking to yourself through this process? Create a schedule both for your 9-5, and your passion(s)! If you don’t, who will?

Now, all this positivity is so easy to say and read on a blog post. What about when there’s no money or opportunities coming in from your passion? Your posture and attitude still matter. Being negative or vindictive to win will never allow for genuine prosperity and longevity.

So what am I saying? Keep working your butt off and do it with a smile. Be productively busy- Get rest when you need it. Work on your craft daily. I know I want to speak and receive more blogging opportunities, so I’ve created a schedule.

I use the voice record feature on my iPhone to practice. I write down messages as if someone has already called or sent an email asking me to grace their panel. I’m making sure to support my friends also. Attend networking events. I still shoot looks for my blog, so I can encourage those that already enjoy what I do! Your attitude now, needs to be the attitude you’ll have later. Don’t frown and fuss now, and expect to smile when you get that big deal!

So yes, I’m still at my 9-5. I’m still enjoying the sweet patients I encounter every day. I’ve got my 5:30am alarm set, my scrubs are clean and dry, my lunch is packed, and I set this post to debut on my blog automatically at noon today just for you! The balance between your 9-5 and that big dream is your mindset! Don’t let this period of working hard throw you off. Stay at it. Someone needs your good attitude. Someone needs you to see your passion through to shine light in their life!
